Developments from The Gambia – 25 September 2026

A selection of developments from 25 September 2026 highlighting innovation, opportunities, environmental action and institutional progress across The Gambia.

A selection of developments across The Gambia highlights ongoing activity in youth innovation, the creative economy, environmental sustainability, institutional development and new professional opportunities.

Young Gambians Build Skills in Robotics

Young Gambians have completed a six-month robotics programme organised by the Africell Impact Foundation in partnership with Kids in Technology Gambia.

Participants received practical exposure to programming, electronics, robotics and problem-solving, developing projects including automated farming systems, Arduino-controlled devices and smart-car technology.

The programme demonstrates the growing interest in science, technology and practical innovation among young Gambians and the potential for skills-based programmes to create pathways into emerging industries.

The Gambia Advances Creative Industries Framework

Work is progressing towards the development of a comprehensive policy framework for The Gambia’s creative industries.

A stakeholder workshop involving the International Trade Centre, European Union and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture brought together representatives of the creative sector to review and validate the proposed framework.

The initiative seeks to strengthen areas including skills development, commercialisation, market access and opportunities for young people and women while supporting the country’s cultural and creative economy.

Exploring Sustainable Opportunities Through Bamboo

International knowledge exchange is also creating new possibilities for sustainable enterprise.

A Gambian participant recently returned from a seminar in China focused on the development of bamboo-related industries. The programme explored bamboo cultivation, processing, value addition, entrepreneurship and environmentally sustainable alternatives to plastic products.

Such initiatives demonstrate how international exchanges can introduce new knowledge and potential business models relevant to local economic and environmental priorities.

Tree Planting and Climate Resilience

Students, community leaders and residents have participated in a tree-planting exercise at the University of The Gambia’s Faraba Campus.

The activity brought together the Kombo East Alkalos Association and the Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Students’ Association as part of efforts to promote environmental conservation and climate resilience.

Community-based initiatives of this nature contribute to greater awareness of environmental protection, biodiversity and the importance of collective action in responding to climate challenges.

Strengthening Access to Information and Data Protection

The Information Commission, in partnership with the United Nations System in The Gambia, has conducted capacity-building activities for civil society organisations focusing on access to information and personal-data protection.

The programme sought to strengthen understanding of the country’s legal framework and the role civil society can play in promoting transparency, accountability and informed public participation.

Professional and Procurement Opportunities

A number of consultancy and procurement opportunities have also been announced across development and public-sector programmes.

Areas represented include flood-risk management and infrastructure, stakeholder engagement, epidemic preparedness, project review, auditing, statistics, public health and resource mobilisation.

These opportunities provide a useful indication of ongoing development activities and the range of expertise being sought within The Gambia.

Interested individuals and organisations should obtain complete information directly from the relevant issuing institution before submitting applications or expressions of interest.
